Into the the world of High Dynamic Range Photography

Beauty is all around us. We often ignore it in our day to day lives until we see great photos from the places we live. We suddenly stop taking for granted the mundane things the beauty of the world opens up to us. All because of Photography.  It was this reason I first got into HDR photography. It was a new way of looking at the world around me.

HDR stands for High Dynamic Range

It’s a style I started learning a few years ago and a style that continues to grow as HDR software continues to develop. The reason I like this form of photography is because it allows us to take new perspectives of the world around us, using and bending light to our will. Allowing for a new appreciation for the beauty around us.

This new form of photography is still in its early stage of development. It’s still rather difficult to do and very few photographers have mastered it. One that I’ve grown fond of is Alik Griffin. His Digital Photography tips have taught me his techniques and now he shares them with the world with his Guide on how to shoot HDR Photography. It's a great HDR tutorial with wonderful technique.

My approach to this art form is to use all available light of the high dynamic range capture techniques and to use it to my advantage but also to create realistic looking images. What really inspires me was Alik’s images from around Japan. Here is one as an example of Yutoku Inari Shrine.

Empower your Imagination

HDR can be use to create new rich styles and empower an image to be something much more than what was actually there. HDR tutorials are hard to come by and it’s really a technique that takes a lot of trial and error. My main advice to anyone looking to break into this photography style would be to not give up and stay persistent.

Youtube also a great source for digital photography tips from photographers that just like to share with the community, here is a pretty good one that covers shooting.

HDR photography is challenge, but so rewarding and fun. Just find some good tips and trick and the world can be yours.
